How to Succeed with a 30 Day Weight Loss Challenge

Hello, my name is Keriann Lowry and I am excited to join Leigh Conducy in taking the Goji Challenge - the 30 Day Weight Loss Challenge that uses cardio games to shed weight. This is my story of how I got to this weight and how I'm going to succeed with my weight loss and fitness goals.

Keriann Lowry Takes 30 Day Weight Loss Challenge. That's me in the black shirt on the left, between my mom and my husband, my sister to my left and my two kids.

I have been overweight a good portion of my life. I was teased and bullied all through my school years. I turned towards food, books, and video games for comfort. The books and video games helped me escape reality, but they didn’t help me get in shape. You could usually find me in my room with a book and a bag of candy, or in front of the TV playing games with a bag of candy. I became addicted to sugar. It is a horrible addiction to break; I will let you know if I ever break it that habit.

I remember the most profound moment that gave me a much-needed wake up call to lose weight. A certain boy teased me all through our school years. After I graduated and moved away from home, I figured I would never see him again. At that time, I was indulging in sweets and my weight soared to the highest it had ever been: 245 lbs. on my 5’6” frame. I was at a Burger King, 275 miles away from my hometown, when who did I run into? You guessed it. That same boy who bullied me about my weight at school was standing in line at the very same burger joint where I was indulging in a high fat meal. I was horrified and afraid.

I was praying that he would not recognize me or would just ignore me. But he did see me and came over to talk. I was completely mortified and felt self-conscious about not being in shape and still carrying extra weight. He was pleasant, but it was still extremely embarrassing. At that very moment, I vowed to myself that day that I would lose the weight and improve my total health.

The power of that embarassing experience provided me with the exercise motivation I needed to get started on my journey to a healthier and happier me. Over the years, I have lost 30 lbs. and have managed to keep it off. But I am not close to my fitness and weight goals yet and I really want to be healthy and feel good about myself. Finding an exercise routine that fits with my lifestyle, something fun and motivating, is key to my success.

I am now married with two children, ages nine and six years old. I work a part time job from home and take classes so I can earn on my degree in English. Juggling work, school, and family can be challenging and makes it difficult for me to get in my workouts and live the healthy lifestyle I want.  Like many people, these are the things that make achieving my weight loss goals challenging. We're all so busy!

So why am I now so determined to lose the weight? Setting an example of an active lifestyle for my children to follow is very important to me. I want to lead my family to make changes for a healthier lifestyle so they can enjoy happy lives and avoid the teasing I endured.

I am excited to begin my journey to fitness with Goji Play and am inspired to share my experiences with others. I love to play video games and working out with Goji Play while I do cardio is so much more fun. That means I’m more motivated to exercise. Also, as an English major, I look forward to honing my writing skills while I work towards total wellness!

I bought the stationary bike about two years ago and it has been living in our downstairs closet, where I cannot see it reminding me that I’m not working out. Perhaps you are familiar with this love/hate relationship with cardio equipment. When I found Goji Play, I pulled that stationary bike out and started riding and playing games.  It takes me back to when I was a kid playing video games, when hours felt like minutes. I thought I had been on the bike for ten minutes, but when I looked, I'd been exercising for 40 minutes! I could not believe it!

Since discovering that I can play games and exercise, I have found myself looking forward to my daily cardio workouts. I know with the help of the Goji Challenge, I will be at my goal weight soon. I am starting the challenge weighing in at 215 lbs. My goal weight is 150 lbs.  My goal is to lose 8-10 lbs. in the first 30 day Goji weight loss challenge.

Join me for the Goji Challenge and let’s encourage each other to eat healthy, workout and get in shape!
