Its weigh-in day and you are looking forward to seeing the weight loss progress you made during the week. You have done everything possible to make sure you stayed under your daily allotted calories, you worked out everyday, and sometimes twice in one day. Your heart is pounding in your chest from anticipation of stepping on the scale and seeing the reward for all your hard work. You slowly step on and close your eyes. You look down expecting to be joyous and all you see is that you weigh exactly the same as you did last week. No weight loss! You feel the disappointment wash over you and step off.
I know exactly how that feels because that is what happened to me during the third week of my Goji Challenge to lose weight in 30 days! At first, I was pretty disappointed with that my fitness progress plateaued. After the shock of it wore off, I started to think about how my clothes are fitting better. I can also see a noticeable difference when I look in the mirror. My face looks thinner and I look happier. The question I start to ponder is, why in the world does the scale not reflect what I am feeling and seeing? I have come to the conclusion that the scale is a liar. LOL! I am only joking. There are a number of reasons the scale is not reflecting what I am seeing. During these times, I have decided to focus on my NSV, better known as non-scale victories.
At the beginning of my 30 Day Weight Loss Challenge, I took my measurements and saved them to compare with future measurements. I then took my three week measurements just to compare to my first week and I was blown away! I have lost a total of 8.5 inches; 2” off of my waist, 4.5” from my hips, 1.5” off my arms, and .5” from my legs. I had no idea you can lose so many inches without it reflecting on the scale. I have lost a total of 5 lbs. (including losing weight while on vacation - Definately a NSV!) and I feel so much better than when I started the Goji Challenge. I feel stronger, I feel healthier, and most importantly, I feel proud of what I have accomplished so far. I know that I am going to continue to lose pounds and get healthy. My body will shed the excess in its own time, and the best thing I can do is continue to stay positive and focused and work hard to get fit and healthy.
During the final week of my 30 day weight loss challenge, I will continue to keep my food journal, make sure I get my cardio workouts in and, to shake it up a bit this week, I plan on adding strength training to my exercise routine.
Follow me on my Goji Challenge and let’s encourage each other to eat healthy, workout and get in shape! If anyone has any suggestions for videos or websites I could use for strength training, please comment below.
